Internal medicine, organized by subspecialty

Our Internal Medicine Center diagnoses and treats digestive, endocrine, heart, kidney, respiratory and skin disease, with veterinarians dedicated to each subspecialty, applying specialized knowledge and up-to-date medical techniques. For serious and hard-to-treat conditions, our internal medicine veterinarians work with the Surgery Center, the Diagnostic Imaging Center and S Animal Cancer Center to plan each patient's diagnosis and treatment.

Internal medicine specialty clinics

  • We provide cancer care for dogs and cats — from diagnosis to surgery, chemotherapy, electrochemotherapy and radiation therapy — in collaboration with S Animal Cancer Center.

    • • Specialized diagnosis based on PCR (genetic) analysis
    • • Personalized chemotherapy protocols developed with the Cancer Center
    • • Tailored treatment plans combining surgery, radiation and electrochemotherapy

Treatment is based on an accurate diagnosis and a combination of therapies suited to your pet.

  • Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD, or chronic enteropathy) is a common diagnosis in dogs and cats with recurring diarrhea and vomiting. Conventional steroid treatment often brings only temporary relief, and long-term use raises concerns about side effects. Our Internal Medicine Center offers new alternative treatment options that aim to control gastrointestinal signs while reducing steroid use.

    • • A trial of dietary management (diet plan provided)
    • • Endoscopic evaluation and differential diagnosis
    • • New alternative treatment options combining fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT), stem cells, exosomes and more
  • With heart disease, early diagnosis and consistent management are key. Through an accurate diagnosis and structured care from a cardiology-focused veterinarian, we aim to preserve heart function as far as possible and help your pet stay comfortable day to day.

    • • Care from a cardiology-focused veterinarian
    • • Precise diagnosis with echocardiography, ECG and cardiac blood tests
    • • Focused management of common heart diseases such as myxomatous mitral valve disease (MMVD) in dogs and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) in cats
    • • Tailored care programs for cardiac emergencies and chronic heart failure
  • Chronic kidney disease progresses slowly and often without obvious signs, so early diagnosis and ongoing management matter. Cystitis and urinary stones tend to recur and can be linked to declining kidney function, which is why kidney health calls for an integrated, specialized approach.

    • • Focused management of nephritis, cystitis and kidney or bladder stones
    • • Kidney failure care with hemodialysis and CRRT (continuous renal replacement therapy)
    • • Stem cell and exosome therapy when standard treatment does not bring improvement
    • • Minimally invasive bladder stone removal (with the Surgery Center)
  • Sudden seizures, unsteadiness or behavioral changes call for accurate diagnosis and prompt treatment. Our neurology veterinarians use imaging such as MRI and CT to find the cause of problems that can't be seen from the outside and recommend a treatment plan.

    • • Care from a veterinarian dedicated to neurology
    • • Focused treatment of meningoencephalitis, myelitis, epilepsy, brain tumors and cognitive dysfunction syndrome
    • • Precise diagnosis with MRI, CT and other advanced imaging
